Director Uberto Pasolini worked with Winston’s Wish on new film, Nowhere Special, starring James Norton

Winston’s Wish worked closely with award-winning director Uberto Pasolini (The Full Monty, Still Life) on his new film, Nowhere Special, starring James Norton (McMafia, Little Women) as a father diagnosed with a terminal illness desperately trying to protect his young son. As the UK’s first childhood bereavement charity, Winston’s Wish is often invited to provide guidance on film and television storylines involving childhood bereavement.

We are so pleased that the issue of childhood bereavement has been raised – and raised so sensitively, thoughtfully and caringly as has been done by the makers of Nowhere Special. Of course, the precise situation for John and Michael may be a rare one, but it raises so many of the concerns people have when a parent of a young child dies or is dying.

Inspired by true events, Nowhere Special features James Norton as 35-year-old window cleaner John, who has dedicated his life to bringing up his son, Michael, after the child’s mother left them soon after giving birth. But John only has a few months to live. He spends the days left to him looking for a new and perfect family for his four-year-old son, trying to protect him from the terrible reality of the situation.

The film premiere took place in Curzon Mayfair on Tuesday 6th July, and included a Q&A with star James Norton, director Uberto Pasolini, Winston’s Wish CEO Fergus Crow and adoption and fostering organization CoramBAAF who also provided guidance for the film.

Nowhere Special is released on 16th July in selected cinemas nationwide.
