Sinead #TeamWinston quote

Sinead’s story

#TeamWinston runner, Sinead, will be taking to the streets on Manchester on 8th April along with lots of other awesome individuals to help support Winston’s Wish. We wanted to find out a little bit more about Sinead, and her thoughts on the upcoming event!

Q. Do you have any previous running experience or is this a new challenge for you?

A. I have very limited running experience, I have run a 10k before but that was a few years ago.

Q. What is your motivation for running and how has this impacted you through the process?

A. I have found that running this distance for Winston’s Wish, having been a bereaved child myself, has had a huge impact on me and my commitment to training. There are other motivators but I have found when it gets tough, I tell myself that being a bereaved child is harder then running any distance and that keeps me going. I don’t want any bereaved child anywhere to feel as lost as I was.

Q. What are you most looking forward to about the Manchester Marathon?

A. I am really looking forward to lots on race day – but mainly the fun and the camaraderie of taking part in a huge event.

Q. Finally, why did you choose to do your first marathon in Manchester, and do you have a special connection to the city?

A. Manchester has been my home since I was 19.  We (my husband and kids and me) are relocating to the Highlands the week after the marathon so it has extra special meaning to me to run my first marathon here, as it is a final ‘hurrah’ to a city that has given me so much.
