Be top of the class this September and give hope to grieving children

The end of the summer holidays can be bitter sweet for many children as they return to school with the usual apprehensions – what will my new teacher be like? Who will I be sat next to? For bereaved children, often the day of back to school brings a whole host of unexpected emotions.

Making your way to the school gate without a mum or dad by your side can leave young people feeling very alone. It may raise thoughts about what the future holds and other occasions when their parents won’t be by their side.

With the right support, at the right time, Winston’s Wish can help children to face the future with confidence and hope. This September, we’re asking our supporters to go ‘Back-to School’ for grieving children by taking part in one of this month’s fun fundraisers – or use the theme to come up with your own ideas.

Fundraising Ideas

Why not get quizzical with a school themed quiz or a spelling bee? Ask your friends and colleagues to pay to play with a prize for the winning team – an early finish on a Friday afternoon always works well (if your boss agrees!). Boost your fundraising with a game of heads or tails or a quick raffle!

Dressed by the kids

Brace yourself – the ‘Back to School’ photos are coming! The kids are back to school with their neatly pressed trousers and oversized blazers but not before the annual photo by the front door. Why not shake things up and let the kids have access to your wardrobe (and theirs!) as they dress you for work? Don’t forget to ask your friends for sponsorship and be sure to share your photos using our ‘Back to School’ hashtag – #DressedByKids

Teacher's pet

Remember the kid in your class who always went over and above to become the teacher’s pet? Maybe they offered to stay behind to help after school or give up their lunchtime to clear up the classroom.

We’re looking for our own Teacher’s Pets who can give up an hour of their salary as a donation to Winston’s Wish. In return, we’ll make sure we send you a Teacher’s Pet certificate for you to display proudly to the others in your class.

School planner

If you’re like us, we loved receiving a fresh new planner on the first day back. Determined to keep this one neat and tidy for the whole year!

Why not use ‘Back to School’ September as a chance to plan your year of fundraising with our A-Z of fundraising ideas. Feel free to use our handy Partnership Planner to map out how you can get involved and give hope to grieving children this year.
