Celebrities flock to Weston-super-Mare AFC to raise money for Winston’s Wish

An all-star line-up of celebrities will be taking part in a charity football match to support Winston’s Wish – in memory of 11-year-old Liam Shepherd – on Sunday 4th July 2021.

Those set to pitch their football skills against each other include Jaqueline Jossa, winner of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here, and Eastenders legend Jake Wood, as well as reality TV stars Calum Best, Dan Osborne and James Argent, with more celebrities set to be announced in the coming weeks.

It has also been announced that the world’s most popular freestylers, Billy Wingrove and Jeremy Lynch, otherwise known as F2Freestylers, will be showing their skills on the pitch alongside ex-professionals Lee Trundle, Paul Konchesky and Jamie O’Hara at The Optima Stadium, the home of Weston-super-Mare AFC.

The game, which has been arranged by Sellebrity Soccer, will kick off at 3pm, with turnstiles opening at 1.30pm.

Kevin Cooper, Sellebrity Soccer’s co-founder said:

After a very crazy and tough world over the last 18 months, we are pleased to now bring Sellebrity Soccer to non-league clubs and to support the clubs and their local charities too.

We are very excited to be coming to Weston-super-Mare AFC to bring some much-needed feel-good factor with a very exciting celebrity match but more importantly help raise funds for Winston’s Wish in memory of Liam Shepherd.

Liam, who was a member of the Weston-super-Mare AFC Academy, sadly died in March this year. Liam was a keen fundraiser for Winston’s Wish, which supports children and young people following the death of someone close to them.

Weston-super-Mare’s Operations Director, Neil Keeling, said:

We are excited to host this celebrity match, which is new territory for us. Hopefully it’s a great success and it’s an event we can look to add to the calendar year on year. We are also proud to be supporting Winston’s Wish in honour of Liam Shepherd.

Paul Moore, Associate Director of Fundraising at Winston’s Wish added:

Winston’s Wish are absolutely delighted to have the support of Weston-super-Mare AFC and Sellebrity Soccer. The generous response from the community in Liam’s memory has been overwhelming and we’re proud to continue giving hope to grieving children as a legacy of the support he showed for our work during his lifetime.

Tickets are now on sale (£12 for adults and £6 for under 16s) and can be purchased here.
