Brewin Dolphin Cheltenham fundraising for Winston's Wish

Walking, running, cycling and rowing 2,150 miles to raise money for Winston’s Wish

A team from the Brewin Dolphin Cheltenham office took on a lockdown fundraising challenge – to walk, run, cycle and row 2,150 miles in six weeks – and raised an incredible £1,328 for Winston’s Wish.

As a team of 15, the Brewin Dolphin Cheltenham office collectively walked, ran, cycled and rowed the distance between all of the racecourses across Great Britain – that’s approximately 2,150 miles.

The idea was born out of Cheltenham’s association with horse racing and inspired by Richard Farquhar who completed a similar feat a few years ago.

The team crossed the virtual finish line at Cheltenham Racecourse on Wednesday 26th August, after six weeks of blood, sweat and tears. After facing some of the hottest days on record at the start of the challenge, we spent the last few hundred miles battling winds and torrential rain before reaching the racecourse with a smile on our faces.

Why did you decide to take on this challenge?

Given the frustrations of lockdown, we all wanted to do something positive. We’ve found that whilst working from home has been a fairly seamless transition, it has been quite difficult to get away from our desks and computers. Setting ourselves this challenge has ensured that we’re all taking a break from time to time, enjoying the fresh air and, of course, keeping fit whilst gym and other sporting activities have been out of action. We all miss the office camaraderie and the challenge so far has helped bring us back together with everyone trying to do their bit.

Why did you decide to support Winston’s Wish?

Winston’s Wish has been our nominated office charity for the past couple of years. Although we are part of a national company, the Cheltenham office are proud to have a regional presence and wish to support charities based in and around the local area. We are huge advocates of the work Winston’s Wish do in supporting bereaved children and their families who have experienced incredible sadness. We know that Winston’s Wish, like many charities, has been hit hard by the coronavirus and faced difficulties raising funds during lockdown. So, we wanted to do what we can to help out.
